EastEnders star Danny Dyer has revealed there was an alternate ending for his character Mick Carter following his tragic exit.
The explosive fallout from the Christmas Day reveal that Janine was behind the car accident culminated in a dramatic showdown which ended in Janine and Linda plunging off the edge of the cliff in a car.
As Mick rushed into the sea to save Linda, she urged him to save Janine first as she is carrying his baby.

Mick was last seen making his way back into the sea to rescue the love of his life, who unbeknownst to him had managed to swim out and make her way to safety.
With no one able to locate the former Queen Vic landlord, he is now presumed dead.
Following his character’s dramatic end, Danny spoke about leaving the show and admitted the experience has been “very emotional”.
He said: “It’s very emotional for me. I’m very attached to the show and it’s been a third of my career. Thirty years I’ve been knocking about in this industry and nearly ten I’ve been in this show.
“To make the decision I made, I didn’t make it lightly. It’s a huge job to walk away from. I wanted it to be a fitting end, so hopefully it is.”
“There was an alternative ending, to be fair, but we’ve not gone with that,” he revealed.
His near decade-long on screen partner Kellie Bright added: “The scene I was holding out for is the scene between Mick and Linda.
“If I could have made that ten times longer I probably would have done, but it had to fit within the episode. It was a beautiful moment.”
But while Danny has said goodbye to Mick and Albert Square, fans aren’t convinced this will be the end for the character as no body has been recovered.
One user penned: “Is it because I’ve watched too many soaps for too many years that I refuse to believe Mick is dead until we’ve identified a body?”
“I bet Mick’s not really dead and will appear in a year’s time, Christmas 2023. #EastEnders,” speculated another.
While a third theorized: “I’ve come to the conclusion that mick is actually not dead & he’ll reappear in a couple months/years, just like dirty den, kathy & a few others #EastEnders.”
