EastEnders' Phil 'returns from the dead' in dark murder twist leaving fans gobsmacked

EastEnders fans thought they’d seen a ghost on tonight’s episode of the BBC soap as bad boy Phil Mitchell returned from the dead.

Kat and Sharon had been left fearing the worst after Phil was being harassed by Craig in prison, who threatened to kill him.

Phil turned to Ravi and offered payment in exchange for backup but was left rejected by Ravi.

After a stunned Sharon learns he’s dead, she shares the news with an equally shocked Kat.

However, all wasn’t as it seemed when Phil suddenly turned up at Peggy’s.

Shocked fans took to Twitter comment on the major twist, with one commenting: “Watched Eastenders for the first time in years and Phil Mitchell comes back from the dead #eastenders.”

Another said: “Pill’s come back… He aint dead!!!, Suprise Suprise!!!”

A third posted: “That’s one way to make an entrance! Phil’s not dead he’s back!!”

While a fourth quipped: “I really don’t know what’s more dramatic today, Boris resigning or Phil Mitchell returning at the end of tonight’s episode .”

How Phil got out of his pickle is still up for debate, but fans are convinced his ‘get out of jail’ card by DCI Keeble was his only way out.

“Phil isn’t dead coz he’s taken the deal to grass,” guessed one viewer.

Another agreed: “Phil obviously took that deal to be a snak otherwise there’s no way he’d be out of prison. #eastenders.”

While a third echoed: “Phil got scared and agreed to be a snake in the grass. They couldn’t kill off the one and only Phil Mitchell!”

There’s more drama on the way in Walford as Sharon Watts goes head-to-head with Kat Moon once more in upcoming scenes.

The duelling pair have both been focused on Phil and whether he will bite the dust at the hands of his new prison enemy.

Now that he is free, the warring women are no doubt set to fight for Phil’s attention.

Fans are also keen to keen to see the fate of Sam Mitchell Kim Medcalf, who is working hard on bringing the Mitchell empire down.

“With Phil being home, what will Sam do about her scheme,” asked one fan.

EastEnders returns to BBC One on Thursday, July 7 at 7pm with the episode also available to stream on iPlayer now.
