Emmerdale star confirms newcomer Nicky is 'too good to be true' as he teases dark secret

Emmerdale star Lewis Cope has confirmed that his character Nicky is hiding something rather dark – admitting he’s “too good to be true”.

This week, fans saw Gabby Thomas and Dawn Fletcher interviewing for a new nanny position at Home Farm, after Dawn decided to take the job Kim Tate offered her.

But Gabby was expecting a lot more from Nicky than his nannying skills, and quickly fell head over heels for the village newbie.

Lewis, who has just joined the cast as Nicky, has confessed she could soon be in for a shock.

Speaking to Daily Star and other press, he confirmed: “At the moment he’s a lovely person, and there’s nothing to say.

“He kind of fits the bill. He is almost too good to be true though, but we’ll have to wait and see.

“Nicky’s a great character. He’s very relatable, likeable, and I’m just having fun with him.”

Speaking about the instant connection between Nicky and Gabby, Lewis added: “Not everyone is on board in the interview, because Dawn obviously has a big problem with leaving the kids in the first place, so I think she is is very particular on the type of person she wants and she is the hardest to win over.

“But I think straight away, even from the first interview, there’s some sort of connection there between Nicky and Gabby.”

Nicky has plenty of experience as a ‘manny’, having raised his siblings when he was only young – and even has a qualification in child psychology, which Dawn has been after to take proper care of Clemmie.

All of which suggests he might not be who he says he is.

It’s far from Lewis’ first acting rodeo, as he explained to press: “I’ve done bits of theatre and bits of TV as well, I did Vera for ITV, I’ve done Doctors, done some stuff on CBBC as well. I’ve done West Ends – plays, musicals. I did Billy Elliott when I was a child, and then recently I did Witness for the Prosecution.”

The star also has a connection to Emmerdale royalty Bill Ward, who shot to fame as James Barton in the soap.

He revealed: “I worked with Bill Ward doing a UK tour. We finished that in March. He’s a lovely guy and I had a good six months touring with him.”
