Emmerdale fan-favourite Cain Dingle could be sent to jail for life after it was revealed that he had shot Al Chapman in an explosive barnyard showdown.
Producers of the ITV soap had previously teased that the 50th anniversary month would end with the start of a story that could see one character go to jail for life – and fans are now convinced it could be Cain Dingle.
Viewers of the ITV soap heard a gun ring out at the end of Monday night’s episode (October 31), following a brawl between Cain and Al, after the truth about Chas Dingle’s affair with Al was exposed.

The cliffhanger ending left fans waiting to see who had been shot – with the shocking truth being revealed in Tuesday’s episode (November 1).
The episode saw Al’s partner Kerry hear the gunshot, as she turned to say to Chloe: “That sounded close, a little too close for comfort.”
After spotting Al’s car, Kerry entered the barn to see Cain standing by Al’s lifeless body and holding the shotgun, before Cain said to her: “It’s not what it looks like.”
Kerry screamed for help from Chloe as Cain fled, with the villager later arrested at his home by armed police as he told wife Moira and his children: “Remember, I love you all very much.”
Fans are now convinced that Cain is the character that will go to jail for life, with one saying: “Ffs I really don’t want cain to leave the show by getting written out by getting sent down for life!”
Another echoed: “If Cain goes to prison and we don’t see him anymore the only reason I’ve got left to watch Emmerdale is Charity and they’re gonna f*** her life up soon!”
And someone else posted: “Is Cain leaving as it said someone was facing life in prison?!”
However, after Kerry told police “Cain will pay for what he has done, believe me,” will she take revenge on Cain and kill him herself? And will she be the character who is sent to prison?
Or could Chas taken revenge on her brother, after she overheard police saying to him: “Cain Dingle, I’m arresting you on the suspicion of murder of Alistair Chapman?”
Viewers saw Chas break down near Al’s house after revealing to villagers in The Woolpack that Cain had murdered Al – with fellow residents growing suspicious of Chas’ reaction to Al’s death.
So could she kill Cain before he reaches trial? And will the truth about her and Al’s affair be revealed to Kerry and the other villagers in the process?
After Cain was arrested for Al’s murder at the end of the episode, fans will have to wait and see whether Cain is jailed for life – and how Al’s murder will affect those around him as the story unfolds.
Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7:30pm on ITV.
