Emotional Ant McPartlin supports pal Declan Donnelly at brother Dermott's funeral

Emotional Ant McPartlin has showed his support to pal Declan Donnelly at his brother’s funeral.

The Britain’s Got Talent hosts arrived for a requiem mass at St Mary’s Cathedral in Newcastle on Friday (July 29) held for Father Dermott Donnelly.

The Geordie duo both both donned black suits, white shirts and black ties.

Father Dermott, who had recently celebrated 30 years of service in the Catholic church, died earlier this month in hospital after falling seriously ill.

His body was received into St Michael’s Church in the city’s West End on Thursday (July 28) evening.

Declan, 46, was spotted carrying his brother’s coffin into church surrounded by mourners.

The service was held at the church where Declan, 46, married Ali Astall in 2015, officiated by his brother Dermott

In a heartbreaking tribute to his beloved brother following his death, the TV star said he was “beyond devastated” in a tweet.

It read: “I am heartbroken to tell you that my darling brother Fr Dermott, @TweeterPriest, sadly passed away this afternoon. We are all beyond devastated. Thank you for your messages of sympathy and support, they are appreciated.”

Ant added at the time: ” ‘Fr Dermott you were the kindest, wisest man I knew. Rest in peace my friend.

“You will never be forgotten. My thoughts, prayers and love are with your wonderful family.

“The world has lost a special man.’Father Dermott was understood to have been a priest for 30 years.”

The priest, who was 55, was best known for his work with young people and youth ministry.

He was a member of the clergy for St Joseph’s Church in Stanley, County Durham.

Hexham and Newcastle Bishop Robert Byrne said: ‘He truly lived his faith, and in doing so gave so much to others. It is with great gratitude that we will remember him and all he selflessly gave.
