An actor who has made several appearances on Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks has appeared in court on rape and child cruelty charges.
Rizwan Khan, 37, has been accused of a number of sexual offences.
The Middlesborough-based actor, who has also starred in ITV drama Vera, appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (September 28) for a short hearing.
The court heard Khan had been charged with five counts of rape, one section two offence of the Sexual Offences Act and one count of causing unnecessary suffering/injury to a child, reports Gazette Media.
During the hearing, Khan spoke only to confirm his name, age and address.
Wearing a black jumper and white shirt, he neglected to enter a plea to the charges – six of which are indictable only and must be heard at a higher court.
He was granted unconditional bail and ordered to next appear at Teesside Crown Court on October 26.
Khan began his acting career at the age of 34.
In 2019, he joined the cast of Hollyoaks and made several appearances as Doctor Peak.
Khan also played a parent in the 2021 film adaptation of hit West End musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie alongside stars including Sarah Lancashire and Richard E. Grant.
Alongside appearances in Vera and Holby City, the actor also recently starred in political drama This England alongside Kenneth Branagh.
Khan’s IMDb page reads: “At the age of 34, Riz decided it was time to make his son proud and pursue the dream of becoming an actor.
“He continues to seize opportunities in both acting and modelling; gaining contracts with a number of high street chains.
“He is constantly quoting to his friends ‘Life right now is amazing, I am thankful everyday and run with every opportunity’.”
