Former royal butler Paul Burrell tells ITV's Lorraine he's 'still devoted to Diana'

Paul Burrell revealed on ITV’sLorraine that he is still firmly “devoted” to the late Princess Diana.

Paul was Diana’s butler in her later years and remains loyal to his dear friend Diana.

During Monday’s programme of Lorraine, Paul said: “I do agree we must all move on and embrace the new monarchy as it happens because that will be a bridge to the next monarchy.

“I am not stuck in the past at all but I can’t forget at all, you see, because I am still devoted to the Princess.

“And I am sad also about all the millions of fans across the world who are still devoted to the memory of Princess Diana, who was told that Camilla would never be queen and she would be styled as princess consort.

“That was obviously the grey suits at Buckingham Palace trying to make Camilla more acceptable to the general public…”

He concluded: “I hope the day never comes when the public says we don’t want them anymore, this is a tricky time for the royals. I want it to survive and I hope it does.”

Paul’s appearance on the ITV chat show comes after Queen Elizabeth’s latest statement, as she celebrates 70 years on the throne.

Part of the statement read: “And when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.”

Talking about Camilla on the show, Paul also said: “I see what she is doing and I know she is preparing a smooth path for the transition of this monarchy to the next monarchy.

“Yesterday, I was very sad and I saw a frail queen at Sandringham and I was thinking about the times I was with her and she was strong and fit and healthy and I realise we are coming to the end of the monarchy and she does too.”

To which Lorraine replied: “I must admit she did look thinner and a little more frail.”

Royal photographer Arthur Edwards also added: “She’s 95, I think she does look frail but she’s smiling and she’s laughing and she’s carrying on. That’s the spirit. I’m so pleased she did that for Camilla because when the queen wishes something it comes true.”

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV
