Conservative MP James Cleverly locked horns with Good Morning Britain hosts in a fierce clash as he defended Liz Truss’ plans to address the worsening cost of living crisis.
During Wednesday’s visit to the ITV studios, Richard Madeley and Charlotte Hawkins welcomed viewers back to discuss the latest news headlines this morning.
And one of the biggest stories on everyone’s lips was the ongoing concerns around the debilitating financial crisis with the rising cost of energy prices.

To get a better understanding of the problem at hand, the TV presenters welcomed the Education Secretary onto the show where he was forced to defend Liz Truss’ plans to help out millions of Britons struggling up and down the country.
However, the Tory back bencher struggled to get a word in edgeways after he accused the 66-year-old broadcaster of interrupting him before he could address the situation.
Richard’s co-host Charlotte opened the conversation by asking about what measure have been put in place to help tackle the financial crisis.
She said: “The measures you’ve put in place were based on previous estimates of the price cap.
“We know now the price gap is going to be exceeded so that help that you’ve already promised is simply not enough, is it?”
James quickly replied with: “We’ve already put a support package in place and Liz has said she will bring forward an emergency budget to address whatever else.”
But her co-host grew increasingly frustrated with the politician as he argued: “You’re not answering our question. Charlotte asked and put it to you that the support package that you are now quoting isn’t enough.”
The MP snapped back with: “Yeah, Richard, I’m saying that in response to those changes in figures Liz is committed to bringing forward an emergency budget. She also said-”
Richard cut back in again: “In September. You keep sliding off the point.”
Furious with his constant interjections, James fumed: “I’m not sliding off the point. I’m not able to get to the point because you keep interrupting, Richard.”
It was at this point that the two locked horns as Richard argued: “Oh that’s not fair.”
James defended his point, saying: “It is fair. We can rewatch the tape and see which of us has done the most talking in this interview.”
The former I’m A Celebrity star pointed out: “I have to hold you to an answer and if you’re not answering the question, you will be interrupted.
“And I’m sorry if that’s too hard for you but that’s hot it works. Everything you said in this interview has made it quite clear that nothing is going to happen until the autumn.
“The central point of this interview is to put it to you that we need action now. And I haven’t heard you say anything at all other than, ‘Oh well, we’ll get to that in the autumn when we’ve got a winner’.
“You’re simply not answering my point so we do have to interrupt, sorry,” he added.
James explained that despite the worrying financial crisis, none of the plans the Tory leaders have suggested can be put into motion until a new Prime Minister is elected.
Breaking down the situation at hand, he said: “The candidates cannot put their plans into practice until they become Prime Minister. That is beyond their control, that is the system we’ve got.
“Liz has said she will lift the green levies, that will take the best part of £200 off the average set of bills.”

He went on: “She’s also said that she will not bring in place that National Insurance increase in place, that will put another £240 back into the pockets of the working people.
“For families with two working people, that will be the best part of £500, and that is on top of the support packages that have already been announced. She will also bring forward an emergency budget.”
