Inside Alan Carr's love life – divorce drama, inappropriate 'hard-ons' and famous flings

As Alan Carr turns 46, we’re taking a closer look inside his love life.

The Chattyman host is one of the nation’s icons and is a much-loved TV star, but what is there to know about the elements of romance in Alan’s life?

For most of his comedy career and since his rise to fame, Alan was in a sturdy long-term relationship with his party planner ex Paul Drayton.

However, since then he has been looking for love and even considered going on C4’s Celebs Go Dating.

Although Alan is an openly gay man, he has also had a few smooches with the opposite sex throughout the years.

First kiss

The hilarious TV star one confessed that his first kiss was with a girl when he was younger.

He once told The Sun about his initial encounter with the girl in question who was called Ruth.

Alan told the publication: “A girl called Ruth who had green eyeshadow. We were at one of those discos without alcohol when we were 13. If she’d been a better kisser, I might not be gay!”

Divorce drama

Alan was with his ex-husband Paul for 13 years after they started dating in 2006.

However, sadly, in 2022, Alan and Paul announced in a joint statement that they had split.

The release read: “After 13 years as a couple and three years of marriage, Alan Carr and Paul Drayton would like to announce they are separating.

“They have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go their separate ways. We request that their privacy is respected at this sensitive time.”

This came after Paul’s drink-driving offence after he hit a police car while being four times over the legal driving limit.

Paul’s lawyer appealed the 14-week jail sentence which was then overturned and instead he was given a sentence which would be suspended for 24 months.

Grace Jones snog

Alan once welcomed music icon Grace Jones onto his talk show and ended up locking lips with her.

He has since spoken about the encounter on Loose Women, with Alan telling the panel all about the moment he kissed her with a mouth full of tequila.

Alan poured a shot of tequila into Grace Jones’ mouth on the show and she abruptly grabbed him for a smooch.

Grace kissed the presenter for several seconds before they let go of each other, but Alan went back in for seconds and after he licked her chin to get rid of the dripping tequila.

Alan laughed and added: “Someone saw it on Gogglebox and said, ‘oh I didn’t know he was bisexual’, and I was like she threw herself at me!”

He then shared the details of her rider and said: “There was eight bottles of red wine and loads of oysters. She was drunk and horny, it could have been a lot worse!”

Gok Wan rumours

There has also been rumours that he had something going on with Gok Wan at one point.

Fans of the pair had a discussion on Reddit, where they explained their theories.

One asked: “Is there ‘something’ going on between Alan Carr and Gok Wan? Or am I just reading too much into it? Cause they were flirting like mad when they were on the Friday Night Project and when Alan Carr was on the Jonathon Ross show he said he was seeing someone but he couldn’t say who!”

Another user replied: “From what I remember from intensive studying, brief flicking through of sleb mags one of them has been involved with the other’s ex.”

Another fan then jumped in: “Oh and Gok has spoken of his love for Alan. Gok guest hosted the Friday Night Project once and declared love for Alan and Gok proposed. Alan replied – there’s no way I can marry you Gok as I would become Alan Wan-Carr.”

To which another laughed: “Oh that’s good…. they should get married just for the comedy name change!”

Aroused by Aljaz

Alan has also admitted to turning down a place on Strictly Come Dancing’s because he’d find it “too arousing”.

He reckons he gets asked to join the lineup “every year” but couldn’t face dancing in a same-sex couple with the likes of sexy Strictly pros Aljaz Škorjanec and Gorka Marquez.

Speaking on his podcast Life’s A Beach, he told listeners: “I get asked to do Strictly every year. I get asked about what I think about same-sex dancing and I say no.

“Their eyes light up and go ‘oh my god’ and I say no because I’d get a lob on if I dance with Aljaz or Gorka. I would be so hard.”
