Inside Hollyoaks Yazz star's life – tragic death, scathing rants and glam snaps

Hollyoaks star Haiesha Mistry has been part of the hit Channel 4 soap for four years since she first joined the cast as mouthy journo Yasmine Cunningham back in 2017.

The character has been at the centre of some pretty huge storylines including a devastating terrorist attack that left her deaf, and the troublesome build-up to her marriage to husband Tom Cunningham.

But in real life, the actress lives life a far cry from her on-screen incarnation as she enjoys life and shares glamorous selfies on her Instagram to update her fans regularly on her antics.

However, Haiesha has been through her own woes in her personal life, including a tragic death that shook her world and her controversial comments of life as a young actress.

Tragic death

Haiesha was left devastated when she lost her “dada” and used her social media platform to raise awareness of protecting each other during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Her grandfather died after contracting the virus leaving the 27-year-old actress to deal with her grief very publicly.

Sharing a picture of them together at a wedding she poured her heart out online.

She wrote: “Back to the past to save the future. That’s a quote from Men in Black 3. I wish, I so desperately wish I could do that now. I wish I could go back in time. It’s hard being the strong one. Being strong for your parent.

“1 am they said. We’ve been anticipating this day. We knew it wouldn’t be long. I just can’t believe it’s happened. I can’t believe you’re gone dada.

“But at least you’re not suffering in pain anymore. The Gods are looking after you now. The most heartbreaking thing is that we couldn’t see you.

“I so wanted to visit you. See you one last time. See you grab my cheek and laugh. Hear your voice. Hear you say ‘OK thank you bye’…”

Haiesha continued: “This is my Dada (grandad), this photo was taken a few years ago at my uncle’s wedding. Yesterday my Dada passed away from coronavirus.

“The past few weeks have been hard. The past few days have been a blur. During this lockdown, I’ve found solace in writing.

“Writing my thoughts and penning down some spoken word pieces. I wrote the above yesterday.”

She continued: “Stay at home stay safe. We must protect our elders. We must protect each other. We can fight through this together.”

‘Bad advice’ rant

Haiesha couldn’t hold back her anger when she saw a social media user suggesting that young actors looking for their big break should be hiring studios to create their own showreel tapes for casting directors.

The soap star took to Twitter to air her frustration at the tweet, suggesting that it was a ridiculous suggestion for those who don’t have disposable income.

She wrote: “I read a tweet recently about how actors should hire a studio to do self-tapes! Like what is this nonsense?! Once I was holding down five jobs including a day job to fund auditions etc so where these people think we get the money from I have no idea…”

The actress warned other young hopefuls not to feel pressure to splash out on expensive showreels

She continued: “Fellow actors please ignore the bad advice and listen to the good!”

Haiesha then shared some advice from Hollyoaks casting director Peter Hunt.

It read: “Lovely actors… just to let you know I’m more than happy with self-tapes shot on a smartphone!

“You don’t need to spend lots of money having them done professionally! My main advice is to try and get it landscape, a plain background, somewhere with a bit of good light! The end.”
