Chipping Norton locals say Jeremy Clarkson “hasn’t done what he’s been told” when it comes to planning guidance in the past.
The 61-year-old TV host was recently denied approval to extend Diddly Squat Farm by West Oxfordshire District council.
Jeremy had filed an application to create a 50-person restaurant and kitchen – with a seating area inside an old lambing shed – at his famous establishment where he films his Amazon Prime series.
The TV host had also requested for his existing car park to be expanded to capacitate up to 70 cars.
An insider has exclusively revealed to Daily Star that Jeremy’s plans were refused “due to the laws in place to protect Areas Of Outstanding Beauty”.
Had the Top Gear host not opted to build on an Area Of Outstanding Beauty, his initial proposal “could quite possibly have been signed off” – revealed the Chipping Norton resident.
The source claims Jeremy has pushed boundaries in the past with planning permission.
The source told us: “When he [Jeremy] bought a lambing shed to put lambs in, he allegedly applied to the council to ask ‘can I build a lambing shed to put lambs in?’
“Within 10 minutes, he’d decided he was giving up lambing and moved a bar and kitchen into the shed – which wasn’t really the idea he’d pitched.”
This caused much upheaval with locals as “people in the area who had asked for an extension or a conservatory etc – and were told ‘no’ – were pointing the finger saying ‘well he isn’t doing what he’s been told,'” explained the West Oxfordshire native.
While the former BBC star’s latest plans were derailed by the council, the expansion idea didn’t seem to sit well with a number of residents – however there are folk who are hailing Jeremy for his efforts.
The insider added: “The farmers absolutely adore him because he’s saying what they’ve been trying to say for years, and now they’ve got a mouthpiece.”
In spite of the growing support from farmers close by, others have taken issue with lambing shed which was later converted into a bar.
“There are people turning up having beers and that causes a lot of problems. So I think those against the plans would like to see the restaurant refused and the bar that has been put in there taken out,” added the local.
Another big problem for the townspeople is the traffic caused by hopefuls wanting to stop off at the Amazon Prime Farm.
The resident explained: “The biggest problem is where his shop is, it’s on a single track road between the village and the biggest town, Chipping Norton.
“If you’ve got a doctor’s appointment in the West, you can’t make it because the road is blocked up.
“You can’t travel by bus as you’ll end up sitting there waiting for the cars to move.
“Kids heading to a school in Chipping also can’t make it because the roads are blocked.”
While it is still unknown when the popular Diddly Squat Farm programme will return to Amazon Prime, filming is underway for season two.
Daily Star has contacted a representative for Jeremy Clarkson for comment.
