Kate Middleton's celeb pals – Victoria Beckham, Hollywood icons and Made in Chelsea star

Kate Middleton marks her 40th birthday today and will be celebrating with “just family and close friends”.

According sources, this years bash will be “low key” with the Duchess of Cambridge reportedly wanting to play down her landmark day as the Omicron variant continues to spread across the UK.

An insider told the Mail on Sunday: “There are likely to be low-key celebrations for the Duchess.

“She didn’t want anything flashy anyway – that’s not exactly her thing – but particularly given the current climate anything is likely to be scaled down.”

As Kate won’t be having a swanky gathering due to the on-going Covid-19 pandemic, Daily Star couldn’t help but wonder if any of her celeb chums were lucky enough to make the smaller invitation list.

Here, we delve into Kate’s friendships with many famous folk.

Kate became good friends with Spice Girls songstress Victoria Beckham after David and William bonded during their time spent working together on the London Olympic bid in 2007.

Four years later, both David and Victoria were invited to attend the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s royal wedding.

In an interview with Sky News in 2013, David had nothing but praise and admiration for William who was about to become father to Prince George.

David beamed: “They’re going to be amazing parents because they are so loving towards children.

“We’ve seen William grow from that young boy into an unbelievable gentleman. And that as a father is really important.”

Another close friend of Kate’s is hitmaker Elton John – who had actually been a good friend of William’s late mother Princess Diana long before her tragic death.

Elton had met Diana at a party in 1981 and they’d struck up a great friendship thereafter.

In 1997 The Princess of Wales was killed in a horrific car accident and the singer was invited to perform Candle In The at her Westminster Abbey funeral in 1997.

The I’m Still Standing singer had also known William since he had been a child and their companionship continued into adulthood.

Their bond was highlighted again on 29 April 2011 when Elton and his husband David Furnish were invited to attend Kate and Williams big day.

Another celebrity chum of Kate’s is Hollywood star Reese Witherspoon.

The Duchess and Reese were acquainted during the Kate’s first Royal tour after she’d tied the knot with William in 2011.

In 2018, Reese gushed about Kate’s witty humour in her autobiography and cookbook – Whiskey In A Teacup.

Speaking about their gathering on Canada Day, she penned: “I was up at 4 am doing my hair. That’s early, even for me. I was up, dressed, and waiting by the door by 7 am. Jim took pictures of me in the car.

“You can see rays of happiness shooting out of my face. I love Kate Middleton that much. And she did not disappoint!

The Big Little Lies actress added: “She was just lovely and warm, elegant and composed. She also told a joke, and I immediately fell under her spell. She’s just as magnificent as she seems to be. She’s a very compassionate, socially conscious, deeply caring person.”

In 2012, it is believed that Kate had sent Reese a gift after her son Tennessee had been born.

Roger Federer

Although Kate and her family love nothing more than to attend Wimbledon each year, many will not know that Duchess has a close chum in the racket sport.

Roger Federer has been a dear friend of the Middletons for a long time and it was even speculated that the professional tennis player had even given Prince George private lessons.

The sportsman never speaks about his relationship with Kate or her family but did give fans insight at the 2019 Wimbledon tournament of his time spent coaching the future King.

He told reporters at the Wimbledon opening that George was a “sweet boy” and had already shown great skills on the court.

Made in Chelsea star Spencer Matthews and his wife Vogue’s relationship has grown with the Duchess of Cambridge over the last five years.

In 2017, Kate’s younger sister Pippa Middleton tied the knot with Spencer’s brother, James Matthews.

With Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Kate and the reality star all playing key roles at their siblings wedding there is no doubt that their union would have strengthened overtime.

However, neither Kate nor Spencer have ever commented on their relationship – despite practically being family now.
