The Love Island villa might seem tranquil and the perfect place for love to blossom, but it’s haunted by past tragedies – including a horror flood which killed 13 people.
The villa is located in Majorca, Spain, not too far from the resort of Sa Coma, and is decked out in chrome white and neon colours to create an aura of love and sex.
With new bombshells arriving each week, the tension is already ramping up in the villa, with couples battling it out in the make or break atmosphere.
But plenty of much sadder incidents have occurred around the resort, which the Love Islanders simply aren’t privy to in the secluded realm of reality TV.
Daily Star takes a look into the tragic past of the villa as Love Island moves into its second week of series eight.
Six-year-old boy drowns
Just days before Love Island began, a UK schoolboy drowned in a swimming pool at a Sa Coma hotel, with his heartbroken family paying tribute.
The young boy is thought to be from Northern Ireland, and spent days in intensive care on life support before passing away on June 5.
His parents had lost sight of him just minutes before he was found floating face-down in the swimming pool.
Attempts to revive him at the scene were unsuccessful, with lifeguards performing CPR on the young lad for nearly half an hour.

Writing on Facebook, a relative said of the horror incident: “We as a family want to let yous know that king Corey has gained his wings.
“The family couldn’t [have] got through it without all your support, we want to thank you from the bottoms of our hearts for all your kind donations, now we have to concentrate on getting him home.
“Please keep praying for the family to get the strength to get through the next couple of weeks!!!”
The family are now fundraising to get Corey’s body back to Belfast.
13 killed in flash flood
Torrential rains ravaged the area of Sant Llorenç in 2018, which left an indelible mark on the country and 13 people dead.
In October that year, walls of water up to five metres high burst out, destroying the square by the town hall in Sant Llorenç and gushing through surrounding streets.
Among those dead were a British couple of elderly tourists, Anthony Green, 77, and his 75-year-old wife Delia, who were being driven back to their hotel in a taxi when the car was swept away in the flood.
Rescue workers found the car submerged and on its side in the torrent, with the taxi driver also discovered dead nearby.
In another tragedy of the floods, a heroic mum died trying to rescue her five-year-old son Arthur as his body was swept away in a car, but both sadly died.

Mum Joana, 40, managed to rescue the couple’s seven-year-old daughter Ursula, saving her life with the assistance of a German cyclist who helped get her to safety.
Victims also included a couple from Germany, an 80-year-old Dutch woman, German journalist Andreas Körlin and Spanish citizens, including former mayor of Arta Rafel Gili.
More than 200 residents were evacuated from their homes at the time.
In May this year, the affected town square was renovated and a memorial to the tragedy erected in the centre, entitled ‘Help’ and designed by artist Amparo Sand.
Hundreds of volunteers helped to clean up the area, now dubbed Plaça de la Solidaritat.
Tornado horror
In September 2019, the area around the Love Island villa was beset by tornadoes, with storm warnings active for Majorca at the time.
The island was battered by torrential rain, thunder, and strong winds, with marquees blown over and flood water rising in the streets.
A number of waterspouts – that’s tornadoes just out at sea – were caught on camera, with urgent safety warnings issued.
BBC weatherman Ben Rich warned at the time: “Towards the southwest of the continent, thunderstorms will be moving through the southeast of Spain and the Balearics.
“You can see these very heavy downpours affecting Spain and the Mediterranean.”
Let’s hope the weather stays more clement for this year’s Love Islanders!
Motorcycle crash
In April this year, paramedics were hailed to the scene of a horror motorcycle crash in Sant Llorenç, with a 29-year-old rider declared dead.
The motorcyclist had collided with a signpost, and suffered severe polytraumatism and a cardiorespiratory arrest.
An advanced life support ambulance was sent to the scene, reports the Majorca Daily Bulletin, but the rider died at the scene.
