Married At First Sight UK will feature a lesbian couple.
They will be one of the pairings to appear on the new series this summer, in a first for the E4 show.
An insider told me: “Married At First Sight had a male same-sex couple last year, and now they will have a female same-sex couple.
“Everyone who works on the show is excited that it’s happening.
“It’s another small milestone for the series when it comes to diversity and inclusivity. The hope is that including a lesbian couple will break down some stereotypes.”
Filming on the series has started and producers are certain the couple will be a hit with viewers.
Our source added: “The women are really likeable. Execs think they are going to be really popular.”
A string of shows have started to feature same-sex couples.
Dancing on Ice paired Ian “H” Watkins with Matt Evers in 2020.
Strictly paired Nicola Adams and Katya Jones and then John Whaite with Johannes Radebe last year.
Oti Mabuse’s Romeo & Duet also featured same-sex couples.
A TV insider said: “The TV world has made big strides and the landscape has changed a lot.
“It’s becoming the norm to have a same-sex couple on a big show. Any concerns that viewers weren’t ready for it were wrong.”
The previous series of Married At First Sight UK saw some major success stories.
And one of the couples which is still together – Adam Aveling and Tayah Victoria – announced recently that they were expecting their first child together.
