Masked Singer fans convinced Alan Cumming is on show after 'Jason Manford lie'

The Masked Singer UK fans are now certain that Alan Cumming, 56, is Bagpipes on the programme after he took to social media to shoot down rumours.

Series three kicked off on Saturday night introducing viewers to twelve fresh wacky characters – who are all celebrities operating in disguise.

As the stars were introduced to viewers, the guessing game began to heat up with many taking to Twitter to air their opinions.

Social media went wild at weekend, with answers landing thick and fast online – including one guess that seemed to cause an internet storm that Bagpipes was no other than actor Alan.

After the rumour mill had set Twitter alight, Alan decided to put to bed any speculation that he was on the show.

He tweeted: “Newsflash: I am not on @MaskedSingerUK nor will I ever be. Thank you.”

However, eagle-eyed fans were not about to be fooled that easily – especially after Jason Manford had attempted to pull a similar stunt during series one when he tweeted to deny rumours he had been Hedgehog on the show.

Fans playing along at home were confident about the identity of the hedgehog at the time and pointed the finger at the Salford comedian.

Denying the rumour, he replied to one suspecting user: “Nah I’m too busy!” with a blowing-a-kiss emoji.

Now that Alan has seemingly followed suit, fans are not about to let him off the hook and believe this could be just another “lie” to cover his tracks.

One tweet read: “It would be fun if Alan Cumming was pulling a Jason Manford style Twitter lie.”

Another chirped back: “That’s exactly what a #maskedsinger would say,” followed by a winking emoji.

A third joked: “Don’t say someone thought you were bagpipes??? Ooft.. no…”

“I think he has tweeted that as a red herring,” interjected a fourth.

While a fifth person remarked: “Isn’t that precisely what someone who was on the show would say?”

The guessing game show kicked off this weekend and already two celebrities have been unmasked.

On Saturday the glitzy Chandelier was exposed as M People star Heather Small, while on Sunday Loose Women’s Gloria Hunniford unveiled herself as the Snow Leopard.

The Masked Singer UK returns to ITV on Saturday at 19:30.
