Matt Hancock 'could land' Strictly stint as BBC boss refusal would be 'controversial'

It’s no secret that ITV bosses landing Matt Hancock for this year’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! was arguably the most controversial signing they’ve ever had.

But despite the widespread backlash, the politician seemed to win over the public and finished in third place behind Owen Warner and Queen of the jungle Jill Scott.

Earlier this month, the Conservative party member revealed he was stepping down as an MP and abandoning his political career.

The bombshell decision means it is highly likely the 44-year-old could be eyeing up other TV stints following his success on the hit ITV reality show.

PR expert Jake Holyoak believes Strictly Come Dancing could certainly be on the cards for the former Health Secretary as he has made it “pretty clear” on heading down the route of TV.

He exclusively told Daily Star: “Nothing is out of question. It really wouldn’t surprise me to see Matt Hancock in Strictly.

“He’s made it pretty clear he’s going to go the TV route and with Strictly being one where he’s not going to be in the public eye 24/7 and being quizzed on his political stances, it could absolutely be an option for him to again show the ‘real life Matt’ that he seems super keen to get across.”

Over the year’s, BBC bosses have been particular about who they include on the show and have often put a ban on reality stars.

Despite the inclusion of a few including Mark Wright and more recently Jamie Laing, last year’s and this year’s series have had zero reality stars take part.

And while the former MP doesn’t technically fall into the same category, the move would still be considered controversial.

However, Jake believes the more controversial move would be if BBC bosses refused him to take part which he thinks could “absolutely” happen.

He added: “However strictly have featured Ed Balls, Edwina Currie, Vince Cable and Ann Widdecombe in the past so it may be pretty controversial if they were to deny Matt Hancock the chance to star in the show!”
