Morning Live's Sam Quek takes swipe at BBC co-host Gethin Jones in cheeky MasterChef dig

BBC Morning Live presenter Sam Quekhas taken a savage swipe at co-host Gethin Jones over his former TV appearance.

Both presenters have previously appeared on MasterChef and their time on the cooking competition was brought up during Thursday’s episode of the morning programme.

The pair spoke about organisation of cutlery drawers before conversation took a cheeky turn.

Sam told Gethin: “I’m a stickler for a clean cutlery drawer. I get upset when my husband puts the whisk in the wrong drawer.”

A photograph of Sam’s immaculate drawer then appeared on screen.

Gethin asked: “Is that yours?”

Sam explained: “Thats’ my main cutlery drawer. I’ve got three actually.

She joked: “Finalist Geth, finalist.”

He replied: “I don’t like to talk about it.”

Sam continued: “I think you came sixth didn’t you but we don’t like to talk about it.”

Gethin and Sam both giggled before carrying on the conversation.

He developed coronavirus symptoms while filming.

“Thank you for all your lovely messages re @MasterChefUK,” Gethin wrote at the time.

“I had symptoms of Covid-19 the morning of the next stage. Absolutely GUTTED… but it was the easiest decision. Would never put anyone at risk. Enjoy the next hour – these guys can cook!!!”

Olympic hockey gold medalist Sam also appeared in the same series as Gethin and made the final.

Morning Live recently moved to a new home and is now based in Manchester.

The BBC announced last year that the show would relocate.

The move is part of the broadcaster’s ‘Across the UK’ strategy, which is intended to make BBC programming less London-centric and more representative of the rest of the country.

Other shows are also set to move out of London. MasterChef will be relocated to a new home in Birmingham, while production of Top Gear is due to move to Bristol.

Morning Live airs weekdays on BBC One at 9.15am
