Viewers of The One Show have voted Only Fools and Horses as their most loved BBC programme, closely followed by Doctor Who and Strictly Come Dancing.
The comedy series followed Del Boy, played by Sir David Jason, and his brother Rodney Trotter as they navigate life in an attempt to get rich quick and was a huge hit from its release in the early eighties, partly due to its very quotable script and hilarious jokes.
It ran for seven series until 1991 and has been well loved ever since. Sir David Jason told The One Show: ““It was such a great show to be a part of and I am pleased it has given so many laughs and continues to do so to this day.”
“From the brilliant writing of John Sullivan all the way down to the entire team in front of and behind the camera, let’s just say luvvly jubbly.”
The BBC is celebrating its centenary this year and to mark the momentous occasion The One Show decided to ask its viewers to vote on their favourite shows from the past 100 years.
Doctor Who, which first aired in 1963, pulled in second place. Other honourable mentions are Strictly Come Dancing, Line Of Duty, Call The Midwife, Gavin and Stacey, Fawlty Towers and Blackadder.
Dad’s Army, Killing Eve, Dinnerladies, Sherlock, Top Of The Pops and The Royle Family all placed in the top scorers.
Alex Jones revealed the voting figures on The One Show: “It’s been a joy to look back and celebrate some classic TV shows from the BBC’s history as part of BBC 100.”
“There’s been an absolutely huge response from our lovely viewers and though we couldn’t fit everything onto the list, our viewers have shown so much love for these classic shows that have connected with them across generations.”
Alex was also joined by Sue Holderness who played Marlene Boyce in the classic comedy show to celebrate the show’s success.
The options were curated by a panel of journalists and critics that handpicked a collection of 50 quintessentially BBC shows. Viewers voted on their favourite shows which ranged from dramas, documentaries and comedies.
