Peter Kay makes huge career announcement after emotional stand-up return

Peter Kay has announced extra dates for his smash-hit stand-up tour following the incredible demand for his comeback shows.

The beloved comedian has returned to stand-up for the first time in over a decade, during which time he has remained largely out of the public eye.

The 49-year-old kicked off his first solo tour in 12 years at the Manchester Arena last Friday (December 2) in front of a sell out crowd, and he was moved to tears after receiving a standing ovation from fans.

His highly-anticipated comeback tour sold out in a matter of minutes, and demand was so high that sites hosting tickets crashed, with O2 admitting it was “by far the highest demand we’ve ever seen for Priority Tickets in 15 years”.

Fans will be delighted, then, to hear that Peter has booked more tour dates that go on sale at 10am on Sunday (December 11).

The additional gigs will take place in Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Birmingham, Glasgow and many more places across the country – with a 28th night at the O2 Arena as part of a monthly residency.

He revealed his exciting news on Sara Cox’s BBC Radio 2 show on Thursday night (December 8) after thanking fans for their support.

He said: “First of all, I want to say thanks to everyone who’s bought tickets to my tour, and I really do appreciate it, and we’ve finally managed to book some more extra dates!”

Sara said: “They’ve been very very popular, so that is excellent news and you must be thrilled with how happy people are to see you gigging again. You must be so chuffed.”

The comic replied: “It’s been absolutely joyous. It’s amazing, and people deserve a bit of joy.”

Peter’s massive tour has already seen him book in 110 shows across the country across 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.

When he first announced the tour, her said: “It’s good to get back to what I love doing best, stand-up comedy, and if there’s ever a time people need a laugh it’s now.”
