Piers Morgan blasts Good Morning Britain as ratings plummet one year after his exit

Opinionated TV host Piers Morgan has blasted Good Morning Britain one year after his fiery exit as the show plunges a whopping one million viewers.

The morning show has seen ratings drop to record lows following the departure of the controversial panellist, and Piers took the opportunity to shame the show for its rapid decline.

The post came in response to a tweet by TV critic Scott Bryan, who looked at how the ITV show’s audience ratings have changed a year later and claimed figures had plummeted by more than one million.

He tweeted: “Interesting to look at what has happened to Good Morning Britain’s ratings compared to this time last year.

“Peak audience day P***s walked (9th Mar 2021): 1.95m. Yesterday’s Good Morning Britain: Peak 910,000.”

Piers reacted by replying with an embarrassed emoji, highlighting the statistic to his legion of 7.9million followers.

One fan commented: “Never watched it since the day he left, he made the show what it was!”

A second agreed: “The point being he topped the ratings, something they @GMB don’t come close to since he left.”

While a third added: “Have to admit, only ever watched it because of him, even if I was shouting at the telly most of the time! Don’t really bother with breakfast TV now”

Speaking about the incident to the Daily Mail, Piers, 56, said: “I was hired to give very strong, honestly held opinions, which I did.

GMB recorded 450,000 viewers on Tuesday marking a shocking decline from the record 1.9 million viewers who tuned in to watch Morgan and his fellow panelists react to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry ’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, just days before the talking head quit the show on March 9.

“I’ve lost my job at Good Morning Britain because I chose not to apologise for disbelieving Meghan Markle’s claims in her interview with Oprah Winfrey,” Piers added.

However, others were quick to throw GMB a bone and noted that it was a major news event on this day last year with the aftermath of Meghan and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.

One argued: “Not sure it’s fair to compare the day of a major overnight story (Meghan & Harry’s Oprah interview) with an average day.”

Another agreed: “Pandemic lockdown versus not? So many people watching less TV this year, I’ve noticed.”

The ratings are still higher than June 2021, when figures plunged to 450k.

Susanna Reid has continued to present the breakfast programme alongside a seat of rotating guests, but Richard Madeley appears to be a semi-permanent fixture.
