Robbie Williams 'puts name forward' for Eurovision Song Contest 2023

Robbie Williams has thrown his hat into the ring for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.

The Let Me Entertain You singer said he has put his name “forward” following this year’s event, which saw the UK’s entry Sam Ryder take the contest by storm and finish in second place.

However, fans shouldn’t get too excited, as it’s not being the UK’s competition entry that Robbie is interested in.

Instead, he wants to perform a half-time show during the ceremony.

So it sounds like the Take That heartthrob won’t be facing the dreaded “nil points” that have befallen many a Eurovision hopeful over the years.

The Mirror quoted him as saying: “I’ve already put my name forward, not for the UK but the half-time part.”

“I thought, I’ll have a bit of that,” he went on.

“No one did it until Justin Timberlake did and Madonna. I was like, I want to do that like those people. So I put my name down.”

Robbie, 48, said he’s even up for it if the competition is held in Ukraine next year.

This year it was won by the country’s Kalush Orchestra and it is traditional for the ceremony to move to the country of the previous year’s winning act.

“I hear it might be in Ukraine but I’m like, I’ll still go!” Robbie said.

The star added that he was a huge fan of the contest.

Kalush Orchestra were the firm favourites to win this year with their catchy track Stefania and went on to clinch the coveted title on the night.

Russia did not participate in the song contest this year because of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

In February, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) said that it thought having a Russian entry at the 2022 event – which was held in Turin – would “bring the competition into disrepute”.

Sam Ryder’s second place brought the UK some major glory after a number of years of disappointing results.

Spain’s act Chanel came in third place with her incredible performance of SloMo.
