X Factor Chico's 'near-death experience' as he had stroke while driving on motorway

Chico Slimani has recalled a terrifying ‘near-death experience’ which saw him suffer a stroke on a motorway.

In an exclusive live chat with Daily Star, the former X Factor contestant revealed details of the terrifying incident which took place in 2018 and saw him hours from death or crippling paralysis.

The 50-year-old said he suffered the stroke while driving and pleaded with god ‘not to let him die’.

He told Daily Star: “I didn’t think I was having a stroke – it was only weeks before I sent a pic to my wife saying people at 47 don’t have strokes or heart attacks.

“Talk about a premonition…

“I was struggling to put the hazard lights on and ended up missing it. I managed to drive 100 yards with my right hand and pulled into the car park and at that moment the world as we know it disappeared. That’s what you may call a near-death experience.

“In my head, I was going, ‘Wow we really come and leave with nothing’ but in the back of my head, I was going, ‘God I don’t feel like I’ve fulfilled my mission yet and I don’t want to die’.”

Chico rested in his car for a number of hours before driving home, and said that when he finally attended the hospital, he was given a potentially grave diagnosis.

In a harrowing conversation, the singer was told by one doctor that they’d ‘never seen a case like it’.

He added: “I closed my eyes and two, three hours later I was able to drive home and my wife then said to me that I looked like a ghost.

“The doctor looked at my scan and I said, ‘Don’t tell me – I had a mild stroke’. They said, ‘There’s nothing mild about this’, and there was a 50p blood clot in the right hemisphere of my brain.

“I said, ‘I’m a walking talking miracle then’.

“He said he had never seen a case like that, he said, ‘If you don’t get to a hospital within four hours you’re either dead or in a vegetative state’.”

Thankfully, the ‘It’s Chico Time’ hitmaker has since made a full recovery.
