Actor Lance Kerwin who starred in Salem's Lot and James at 15 has died aged 62

Actor Lance Kerwin has died aged 62, his family have confirmed.

The Hollywood actor, who starred in many hit shows from the late ’70s and ’80s, including Salem’s Lot, died in San Clemente, California, on Tuesday (January 24).

According to Variety, his daughter Savanah said that officials were conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Lance was a child star who began appearing on television in 1974, with roles on shows such as Emergency!, Little House on the Prairie and James at 15.

Following news of his death, fans and his fellow co-stars took to social media to share messages of condolences.

One of Kerwin’s co-stars, Ike Eisenmann, paid tribute online, penning: “I am beyond heartbroken to hear of the passing of one of my greatest friends and co-stars I have ever worked with, Lance Kerwin.

“He was the child actor that inspired me to be the best that I could be because he was the best I had ever seen. Rest in peace, my friend.”

Actress Erin Murphy said: “Tough start to the year. Rest In Peace #LanceKerwin.”

Lance’s appearance in James at 15 only lasted for two seasons, but the role turned him into a massive teenage heartthrob and saw him work on more projects throughout the years.

His other roles in his career included stints on TV shows such as Wonder Woman, The Bionic Woman and Family.

Later in his career, he appeared on shows such as The New Adam-12, Murder, She Wrote and Simon & Simon.

After stepping away from acting in the 1990s, he was working as a pastor in Hawaii.

Lance is survived by his five children, Savanah, Fox, Terah, Kailani, and Justus.

His family plans to announce an after-life ceremony in the near future.
