Alison Hammond floors This Morning fans as she asks if George Michael will be on show

ITV presenter Alison Hammond has had This Morning viewers laughing as she messed up the daytime intro with a George Michael gaffe.

Standing alongside her co-host Dermot O’Leary, Alison introduced a feature highlighting the music of 80s band Wham! with video snippets of late singer George Michael, before she asked Dermot, “Is he on the show today?”

Co-host Dermot looked ready to burst into giggles as he confirmed it was in fact Andrew Ridgeley appearing instead of the late singer to discuss 40 years since the band first hit the charts.

Singer George Michael died in December 2016, which Alison seemed to have missed as she referenced the singer joining the show again later in the programme.

Alison’s blunder saw her ask her co-host Dermot if late singer George Michael would be on the show

The mistake didn’t go unnoticed by viewers who found the mistake funny as they shared their response to the blunder on social media.

One viewer tweeted laughing emojis as they wrote: “Did Alison say have we got George Micheal on the show”.

Another shared: “George Michael is on the show later! …… jesus wept Alison.”

““George Michael’s coming on the show today!” Oh, really, Alison? Did you resurrect him from the grave? I’m gonna guess… no,” laughed another.

George Michael, who died in 2016, was the lead singer of 80s band Wham!

A fourth added a laughing emoji as they shared: “When Alison said “is he on the show today” I thought she meant George. I was gonna say surely she knows he’s dead”.

Alison and Dermot are continuing to host This Morning until presenter Hilly Willoughby returns on June 5.

The duo have been covering the show in the aftermath of presenter Phillip Schofield stepping down from his role of 21 years with “immediate effect”, which was announced on Saturday (20 may).

Addressing Phil’s exit from the programme, Dermot and Alison paid tribute to the former presenter on yesterday’s show (Monday 22 May).

Musician Andrew Ridgeley from Wham! was on This Morning to discuss 80s music and 40 years since the band first hit the charts

Alison said: “We can’t start today’s show without paying tribute to the man who spent the last two decades sitting on the This Morning sofa, Phillip Schofield.”

Dermot added: “As a show, everyone on and off screen at ITV on This Morning want to say a huge thank you to Phil for what he has done to make the show such a success over the last 21 years.”

Alison then chimed in: “Quite simply, he is one of the best TV broadcasters this country has ever had and we and all the team wish them all the best for the future.”

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
