Amanda Holden says Les Dennis split was her fault but ‘women cheat for a reason’

Amanda Holden has finally come clean about her split from her first husband, Les Dennis, admitting that the demise of their marriage was her fault.

However, the stunning star didn’t stop there. Holden also boldly claimed that “women have affairs for a reason,” raising eyebrows and sparking a whirlwind of speculation.

The 52-year-old Britain’s Got Talent sensation, who was married to presenter Les Dennis from 1995 to 2003, opened up about the painful aftermath of her affair, confessing that she felt like she “couldn’t breathe” amidst the intense backlash.

“I found the fall from grace incredibly hard to deal with,” Holden candidly revealed to Express.co.uk back in 2009.

“I can’t bear not to be liked. Then I had an affair and overnight turned into this awful person. There are no hard feelings with Les. I wish him the best, but we’ve both moved on.”

But it was Holden’s controversial statement about women and infidelity that truly shocked the public. “I don’t believe women have affairs for no reason. Women don’t seek sex – we seek love and affirmation,” Holden boldly declared.

“If a woman has an affair, there is normally a problem in their marriage.”

She acknowledged her own responsibility in the split, admitting, “I brought it on myself, I appreciate that, but nothing will ever be as bad again. It was a very dark time. It got to the point where I felt I could hardly breathe.”

Les Dennis, Amanda’s ex-husband, seemingly took a subtle dig at her on social media, igniting further interest in their past.

In response to Holden’s glamorous photo with the caption “Paris,” Dennis posted a photo from his dressing room, cheekily captioned: “Not in Paris. In Leicester.” The playful exchange between the former flames stirred up quite the frenzy online.

She also credited her ex for “saving her” at such a difficult time, even after discovering she had been cheating on him. “Les proved to be my saviour. Ironically,” she said. “So the person I’d hurt the most in the world was the one who was there for me.”

Their marriage, which began when Dennis was 40 and Holden was only 23, ended in 2000 after it was revealed that the actress had been having an affair with Neil Morrissey, known for his role in Men Behaving Badly.

Holden continued to defend Morrissey, emphasizing the problems that existed within her marriage.

“I want to change the general perception of him, as he was very caring and very loving and very worried about me because I lost so much weight.”

In 2008, Holden found love again and tied the knot with record producer Chris Hughes.

The couple now shares two beautiful daughters, Lexi and Hollie.
