Amanda Holden slams BGT ‘fix’ claim as girl she asked to audition gets golden buzzer

Amanda Holden has slammed Britain’s Got Talent “fix” claims after she gave her golden buzzer to a young girl she invited to audition.

The 52-year-old met with Olivia Lynes beforehand and asked her to come down to audition – but Amanda has now said she didn’t actually know the youngster could sing.

During Saturday night’s episode (April 30), Olivia blew the judges and audience away with her rendition of iconic Wicked song Defying Gravity.

In fact, Amanda was so impressed that she hit the golden buzzer, causing shimmering confetti to rain down on the stage.

But viewers weren’t too pleased.

One person tweeted: “Hand-picked to audition and a golden buzzer? Absolute fix.”

A second said: “What’s the point of this show? She’s hand-picked by Amanda, who then gives her a golden buzzer, what a fix.”

Now, Amanda has fired back, explaining that Olivia being such a talented singer was a bit of a happy coincidence.

She told MailOnline : “So I didn’t know if I was allowed to press it for her because I’d actually met her the day before as part of our golden moments and encouraged her to come down and audition.

“But when I met her I had no idea if she could sing, and then was absolutely blown away by her performance.

“It’s just so typical of what I would press my buzzer for. I was almost like, ‘Oh my god. It’s going to have to be this because I love it. She is amazing.'”

The fix claims came after viewers watched Amanda meet up with Olivia and ask her to come and audition.

Amanda told the audience: “She was going to see the show Matilda and I was in the box office.

“I told her to come down because her mummy and nanny said she had the most amazing singing voice.”

And while there were some disgruntled viewers, there were plenty more who were just as impressed with Olivia.

One said: “Very well deserved golden buzzer for Olivia. She’s only 11 and got an amazing voice, very well deserved young lady.”

While another said: “That was a golden buzzer! My god, that girl can sing.”
