He said: “Going into my 60s and maybe into my 70s, I want to see just how fit I can get.

“Because I think it would be quite a statement to be doing weighted pull-ups at 70 years old.”

Gregg was inspired to lose weight to keep up with his younger wife Anne-Marie Sterpini, 37, and their four-year-old son Sid, and now he is leading the way for older men’s fitness.

Asked what inspired him to get in shape, Gregg said:”“I fell in love with a much younger woman.

“She made a decision to be with an older man and I’m nearly 60 with a four-year-old, Sid, so I want to be active and well.

“The more of it I did I thought, ‘Actually, the weight is coming off.’

“Then you get some compliments and you think, ‘Wow.’.”

It comes after Gregg set the record straight about his decision to step down from his show Inside The Factory.

Reports alleged that the TV star stepped away from the role because he was “rude” to colleagues and even made comments toward female staff about their weight.

However, Gregg told The Times: “I’ve enjoyed doing [Inside The Factory] for a number of years and I’ve done hundreds of factories. I use humour to relax people.

“It’s a tool I’ve used for lots of years. I never, ever set out to upset or offend anybody and I never would.

“It makes me upset that I might have upset people.”

“All I would say is, perhaps we need to draw a line between people that are bullies or nasty people and people that have made a mistake. Perhaps.”
