Ben Affleck addresses Good Will Hunting 2 rumour after ‘loose-lipped’ Matt Damon slip

Ben Affleck has lifted the lid on rumours of a sequel to beloved film Good Will Hunting after being pitched an idea.

During the Los Angeles premiere for the actor’s new film AIR, Matt Damon revealed that someone had approached Ben with a follow-up idea to the iconic film.

Matt, 52, told Variety: “Someone just tried to pitch Ben Good Will Hunting 2. I s**t you not – that happened.

“He told me today. He was like, ‘You’re not going to believe what I heard.’ This was a flat-out sequel. I don’t get it.”

However, tight-lipped Ben quashed any hopes for a sequel and said his co-writer runs his mouth too much.

He said: “Matt is always telling stories that he should not be telling.”

When asked for details, Affleck, 50, scoffed: “It’s not a sequel we’re going to pursue.”

The dynamite duo co-wrote and starred in the 1997 psychological drama, which saw the pair win an Oscar for best screenplay.

While the flick captivated millions around the globe and propelled the pair to stardom, the writing process nearly drove them apart.

Matt told Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show: “I mean, I think Good Will Hunting took us so long. We were, like, unemployed, broke guys. It took us forever to write that screenplay.

“I think that kind of put us off writing again, because we never thought we’d have the time.”

After the scarring experience, the pair wouldn’t write together for another 25 years.

Middle-age action The Last Duel didn’t win squat at the 2021 Academy Awards.

But more importantly, Matt said that things ran more smoothly thanks to decades of the duos’ Hollywood experience.

He said: “I think we found writing this that we actually kind of picked up structure over the last 25 years of making movies, and so it went a lot faster.”
