Ben Shephard ‘banned’ from Strictly by wife as fans left gutted over GMB tease

Good Morning Britain did a stellar job at hinting that Ben Shephard would be appearing on Strictly Come Dancing this year.

With hints left, right and centre that it could be him – namely them linking certain similarities between Les Dennis and Ben – fans were stunned to discover he wasn’t actually taking part.

But it seems Ben has a ban imposed on his participation as his wife isn’t too keen on the thought of him being up close and personal with the dancers.

Speaking on GMB, Ben previously said: “So my wife has always been sort of pretty upfront about the fact that she doesn’t want me to do because of the curse.

“She says, ‘Why would I want you to go on and do that?’”, before asking professional dancer AJ Pritchard if it’s the same kind of experience.

He asked: “Is your partner sort of sitting there saying, ‘This is a real thing, we’ve seen it happen.’”

But AJ explained that the dancers’ partners are often “not worried at all”, particularly because a lot of the professionals have partners who are also dancers.

Ben also said on a separate occasion that his wife Annie is worried about the “chemistry” between contestants, with Ben adding: “She’s worried about it, and rightly so!”

He added: “No chemistry, that’s the secret to keeping a happy marriage and doing Strictly.”

However, despite Ben previously saying he hasn’t been given the green-light to sign up, the hosts were still insinuating that he would be joining the line-up.

They confirmed they had some news about Ben to share on the show, while also dropping hints he would be the Strictly sign up, explaining the legend covered morning TV and hosted an ITV afternoon game show.

But after not sharing any news about Ben in the episode, fans rushed to X to share their complaints.

One user wrote: “The way they built that up and teased with the game show host part. Gutted it’s not Ben Shephard tbf. He’d have been great to watch.”

Another said: “I’m disappointed it’s not Ben,” while a third wrote: “Gutted it’s not Ben.”

GMB continues weekdays from 6am on ITV.
