British Soap Awards viewers point out epic name blunder as they ask ‘are you alright’

The British Soap Awards faced an awkward moment when viewers pointed out a major name blunder.

The biggest night in soapland was back on TV screens on Tuesday (June 6) and saw our fave telly actors from all over the country come together for the glitzy bash.

The stars from Coronation Street, Hollyoaks, Emmerdale, EastEnders and Doctors got themselves dressed up to the nine in a bid to bag the coveted gongs.

Jane McDonald was on hand to host the gig in Manchester – and viewers, and the audience, couldn’t get enough of the TV legend.

But the show took a rather awkward turn when it was time for the Best Villain award to be presented – with a star from BBC’s smash hit show The Traitors giving out the gong.

A Traitors star made an appearance

The winner of the BBC show, Wilfred Webster walked on stage in a green cloak before pulling the hood down to read out the nominations.

The nominees included Emmerdale’s Al Chapman ( played by Michael Wildman), Coronation Street’s Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) and EastEnders’ Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara).

But as he read out the nominee, and winner, Aaron’s name, he appeared to mispronounce it – and viewers straight away noticed.

Fans pointed out the blunder

Rushing to Twitter, one person said: “Erm don’t think that’s how you pronounce Aaron hahaha.”

A second added: “Love my AYYYRON thiara.”

“A-ron? Is it not Aaron,” said someone else, as a fourth mused: “Who’s aayron thiara.”

Another viewer said: “ayron theaira??? are you alright mate?”

Aaron went on to bag the award for his role as bad boy Ravi Gulati – who has amassed a number of enemies on the show despite his short time in Albert Square.

Viewers noticed a name blunder

Elsewhere on the show, Jane’s stint as host went down a treat with fans.

Jane replaced Phillip Schofield after the presenter, 61, admitted he had an affair with a young male colleague who worked at ITV.

As Jane, 60, took to the stage for the first time, fans all had the same request, insisting she should be made the permanent host of the annual event.
