Bruce Willis’ wife admits she is ‘not good’ during declining dementia health battle

Emma Hemming has been married to Hollywood actor Bruce Willis since 2009, where they share two daughters.

However in February 2023, his family revealed that he received the sad diagnosis that he was battling frontotemporal dementia at the age of just 68.

This was after the announcement that he would be retirement from acting after an initially diagnosis of aphasia last year.

Emma, 45, is currently enjoying a mountain getaway with her husband and their two daughters, Mabel, 11, and nine-year-old Evelyn, and she said that is buoyed by support and encouragement from her fans who are also carers.

She said: “So, I finished my hike, and your pictures are making me so happy.

“I just think it’s so important for us to sort of break up our thinking, which can feel, for me, very much like doom and gloom.

“I know it looks like I’m out living my best life, I have to make a conscious effort every single day to live the best life that I can.

“I do that for myself, I do that for our two children and Bruce, who would not want me to live any other way.”

A crack was noticeable in her voice as she continued: “I don’t want it to be misconstrued that, like, I’m good, ’cause I’m not. I’m not good.

“But I have to put my best foot forward for the sake of myself and my family.”

She opened up like never before as she admitted that people need to look after themselves, so they can give the best possible car for those they look after.

Emma explained: “When we are not looking after ourselves, we can not look after anyone that we love, so it’s really important… It does not come to me easily, but I am just doing the best that I can always.”

She also accompanied the clip with a mini-essay in the caption as she emphasised her message about self-love for those who might be caring for ill partners.

She wrote: “This is a care partner PSA (Public Service Announcement).

“My message is simple. When we are not looking after ourselves, we are no good to the people we love and who we want to show up for and take care of.

“I don’t have this down to a fine science either, but I try. It’s an affirmation I use daily so it’s kept in the forefront of my mind. Your pictures, words of support, and love for me and my family were felt. Honestly, thank you, it helps.”

She added: “I ask that you’ll consider to keep looking for that one beautiful thing or moment in your day. And I hope you can take me seriously in my dopey hat.”
