Buck’s Fizz star Cheryl Baker is joining EastEnders for a brief stint as the residents of Albert Square celebrate the Eurovision Song Contest.
Cheryl, 69, was a member of pop group Bucks Fizz, who won Eurovision in 1981 and will make a guest appearance in the BBC soap to mark the occasion.
Speaking about her upcoming cameo appearance, the singer admitted she was “thrilled” to be joining the soap.

“I was so thrilled to be asked to take part in an episode of EastEnders. It’s a British institution, for goodness’ sake!,” she said.
The Dancing on Ice star added: “As a real-life ‘Eastender’, I have loved the show since day one and I literally can’t wipe the smile from my face.”
Cheryl’s cameo appearance comes a few years after revealing she once auditioned for the BBC soap, but got turned down by bosses as she was “a bit rubbish”.
She told Daily Star in 2021: “I auditioned for EastEnders recently but I didn’t get the part. I was a bit rubbish really.
“I was a bit nervous and didn’t learn my lines properly. I don’t watch any soaps – I’m not a big TV watcher at all. I think it was the part of the woman who runs the theatre school, which is something that I’ve done in the past.
“It was in the midst of lockdown, my daughter was reading the other part and to be perfectly honest I didn’t learn my lines properly. I didn’t deserve the part. However, I’d like them to give me a second chance.”
The Eurovision legend added: “I’m a very optimistic person, and if something doesn’t happen I believe something better is around the corner.”
The BBC have promised this year’s Eurovision will be “unlike any other” as plans for the event have been unveiled.
Speaking ahead of the competition, Eurovision co-host Rylan Clark said: “Eurovision is my favourite time of the year, I cannot wait! And I’m so excited and absolutely buzzing to be hosting the Eurovision Grand Final on Radio 2, the biggest and best music event in the world, with my partner-in-crime Scott Mills.
