Catchphrase's Stephen Mulhern sternly tells off Adam James over ITV crew swipe

As the host took to his famous quiz show to head up the celebrity version for a New Year’s Day segment alongside celebrities Kadeena Cox, Adam James and Ellie Taylor.

Actor Adam was off to a strong start alongside his fellow contestants Kadeena and Ellie, but all three of them were stumped over one particular catchphrase.

A running fox jumping over a dog appeared on the screens, with all celebs attempting different versions of the same phrase, with the trio firmly suggesting the fox was red or orange.

Tensions were already high as the team realised they were only missing one word, with Adam’s final guess prompting Stephen to ask him if he’s “winding him up”.

Adam immediately snapped back: “Are you winding me up?!”

When the catchphrase was revealed as The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over The Lazy Dog, thanks to Kadeena Cox, Adam was less than impressed with the answer.

As Kadeena got the points, Adam fumed that the fox was far from brown and appeared more orange or red.

Adam congratulated Kadeena before adding: “We’ll need to have words with the animation department. How is that brown?”

Stephen immediately fumed: “You do not talk about the animation department, Adam!”

And it wasn’t just Stephen who was getting frustrated with the celebs, with multiple fans taking to Twitter to share the catchphrase before they were able to land on the right answer.

Another viewer wrote: “I’m already tearing my hair out with these idiots and it’s only been on five minutes.”

While another said: “Come on!”

It was revealed that Catchphrase would be coming back to ITV after some time off-screen as they kicked off the new year with Adam, Kadeena and Ellie.

The series returned in December and will continue to air the rest of the series with more episodes due to come.

The Celebrity version of the show sees stars battle it out in order to take home some money to their chosen charities – with any cash banked being sent directly to the charity.

Celebrity Catchphrase airs on ITV1 and ITVX.
