Christina Applegate carries ‘FU MS’ cane for ‘last’ red carpet amid health battle

Christina Applegate stepped out on the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards red carpet carrying an ‘FU MS’ walking stick for what could be her “last awards show as an actor”.

The 51-year-old, who is battling multiple sclerosis (MS), attended the red carpet with her 12-year-old daughter Sadie Grace LeNoble on Sunday (February 26).

Christina wowed in a velvet double-breasted coat with huge silk lapels and a train flowing down past her feet.

She carried a black cane emblazoned with the initials FU MS, along with her daughter’s name and a love heart.

Letting her blonde tresses flow in loose waves down past her shoulders, Christina dazzled as she smiled for the assembled cameras.

She opted for a dark scarlet lipstick and bold lashes as she held hands with Sadie, who matched her mum in a black pantsuit and newsboy cap.

Earlier this month, the star opened up to the Los Angeles Times about the SAG Awards, explaining that it would be her “last awards show as an actor, probably, so it’s kind of a big deal.”

Though she ultimately lost out to Jean Smart for her performance in Hacks, Christina could be seen cheering for her fellow actress at the star-studded ceremony.

Emmy winner Christina explained her decision to step back from acting amid her MS battle, telling the LA Times: “Right now, I couldn’t imagine getting up at 5am and spending 12 to 14 hours on a set. I don’t have that in me at this moment.”

Instead, she is doing a “sh** tonne of voice-overs” in order to “make some cash to make sure that my daughter’s fed and we’re homed”.

Christina confirmed she was “struggling” with her MS while filming the last series of Dead To Me, with production taking a five-month break for her to undergo treatment.

She explained: “There were times I’d break down on set and be like, ‘I can’t, we have to take a break, I need a half-hour’ and everyone was so loving that it was OK.”

Her symptoms started with numbness and tingling in the extremities years before realising she had MS. Though there’s no cure for the disease, treatments can slow its progress – however, there is no way to undo the damage to the nervous system.
