Corrie’s Chris Gascoyne flooded with support as he lands huge new job away from soap

Coronation Street star Chris Gascoyne, who has been playing Peter Barlow on the ITV soap for 23 years, has landed a huge new job away from the cobbles.

The actor has been inundated with praise and support from his fans after The Alban Arena in Saint Albans made an exciting announcement about their pants line-up for this year.

The theatre’s social media account penned: “EXCITING PANTO NEWS. The Alban Arena are delighted to announce Coronation Street Legend Chris Gascoyne will star as Captain Hook in The All New Adventures of Peter Pan this pantomime season!

“This promises to be our most spectacular pantomime yet with stunning sets, dazzling costumes, and a star-studded cast, this is a must-see show for the whole family. Don’t miss your chance to experience the wonder and excitement of Neverland once more in Paul Hendy’s pantomime sequel!”

Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long for fans to react, as one said: “Nah corrie are too funny saying that Peter has been on a boat for 3 months when he’s playing a literal pirate.”

Another added: “The whole Carter fandom going to St Albans Arena in December! That’s the Chris Gascoyne effect.”

A third chipped in: “I’ve booked tickets so excited to see Chris.”

A fourth wrote: “”My prayers have been answered,” in answer to a tweet they shared back in 2020 which read: “Petition for chris to do another panto when all this is over.”

Chris made his debut as Peter, who has been played by an impressive seven actors, in the live episode for the show’s 40th anniversary in 2000.

Fans quickly rushed to praise the actor for the exciting new job

He then left the role in 2003 before returning full-time in 2008 before making another exit in 2014 – he made a brief return for Deirdre Barlow’s funeral the following year.

Chris then made another huge return in 2016 and has remained in the role ever since.

Corrie airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV.
