The episode and acting taking place has been praised by fans, fellow actors and critics and has already been poised to win awards due to its impact.
After the episode, Charlotte took to Instagram to share a number of behind-the-scenes photos from selfies to photos in action as she praised the “team effort”.
Sharing the photos to Instagram she wrote: “Feel quite overwhelmed with all the messages about last night’s Corrie.
“So many people to thank for delivering episodes on such a sensitive and unfortunately, prevalent subject matter. It really is a team effort and wanted to say thank you for watching, even when it’s hard.”
Her fans and friends immediately took to the comments, with her co-stars also sharing their thoughts on the daunting episode.
Corrie’s Tina O’Brien wrote: “Smashed it, you incredible woman,” while both Julia Goulding and Samia Longchambon simply shared clapping emojis and hearts.
Her fans also rushed to the comments, with one person writing: “You’re amazing last night. A standing ovation. Hope this will be recognised in time with many awards.”
Another said: “All the cast were incredible. Brilliant.”
The episode had viewers in awe over the acting of the duo, but some members of the audience complained to Ofcom following the harrowing scenes.
The broadcasting regulator was hit with 72 complaints after an acid attack was depicted on the show.
The scenes saw Daisy Midgeley and Daniel Osbourne’s wedding take a horrific turn as Daisy’s talker Justin Rutherford showed up just before she left to tie the knot.
Justin threw a glass bottle filled with acid at Daisy, claiming that “no one would want her after this”, but Ryan stepped in and was instead hit on the side of his face with the liquid.
He fell to the floor, screaming in agony, and has since been hospitalised and bandaged.
Coronation Street is continuing to follow their recovery journey, working with acid attack survivor Katie Piper on the long-lasting impact of the attack.
