Now, months on, Dan has reflected on the terrifying crash and its aftermath.
The presenter told The Express: “I landed on my right hip really, really heavily and I jolted my back a bit, so I’ve got nerve damage down the right side of my body.”
“”Every time I get out of a car, it takes me about two minutes to get my legs kicking into gear.”
The smash left him with extensive bruising and covered in blood, but he avoided breaking any bones.
Hero onlookers that witnessed the scene called the police and paramedics, getting Dan swiftly to safety.
Dan previously revealed that without a helmet, there is a good chance he may not have survived.
He also said he has “no memory” of the crash.
In February, the Crawley-born journalist commented “Very thankful to still be here.
“I have no memory of anything and just remember coming round on the tarmac with paramedics and police around me.
“The helmet I was wearing saved my life today so – if you’re on a bike – get one on your head.
“Smashed my watch & phone, ruined my trousers, my bike is a mess but I’m still here.
“Currently eating soup through a straw and being looked after by this gorgeous, tired nurse.”
Dan previously hosted BBC Breakfast with Sally Nugent, but left the beeb sofas for 5 News in 2022.
He revealed that after the switch, he felt “no regrets” and feels “more alive”.
Speaking to Press Gazette, Dan admitted he was sceptical of his choice, thinking: “Have I made the right decision?” at the time – but now he’s “convinced that it was the right thing to do at the right time.”
He added, “When I used to get up at three I never used to worry about it because I enjoyed the job and, for about four hours, you feel like you’re ahead of the game because your mind is clicking and being creative while everyone is in bed.”
Since the presenter joined, 5 News received a 30% increase in audience growth – smashing his assigned target of 20%.
Dan’s newest task is to boost 5 News’ audience share from 3% to 5%.
