Demi Lovato is the first to admit she has daddy issues. She even has a song with that very title.
But now the non-binary hitmaker is in a healthier place in her romance with musician Jutes, and was ready to open up about her past age-gap relationships.
Demi – who uses she/they pronouns – admitted on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show that their new romance has given them perspective on the “unhealthy” relationships of the past.

Demi explained: “I think what I went through was I had a phase of dating older men and dating older guys because of my daddy issues, obviously.
“Now I’m at a place where I’m in an amazing relationship. My boyfriend is a year older than me, and we’re growing together and it feels so healthy.”
She continued: “I can say with confidence that my daddy issues aren’t anything that are inside of me anymore.
“I think there’s a few signs to that. I’m with a partner that is my age, essentially. I look back on the past [of dating older men] and think, ‘That’s gross.’”
Speaking of her current relationship with Jordan Lutes, she giggled: “He has the best personality. We laugh non-stop. There’s this partnership there that is just so magnetic, and the way that we laugh together is just non-stop.
“So I think if you can find someone that makes you feel safe, that you’re so attracted to, that you laugh with constantly, that’s the formula of a really great relationship.”
Demi and Jutes have “talked about” getting married and having kids but are “taking their time with it”, with Demi adding: “I think it’s important not to rush that.”

Her romance with Jutes came hot off the heels of Demi calling off her engagement with The Young and the Restless actor Max Ehrich in late 2020.
Before that, they dated 43-year-old actor Wilmer Valderrama for six years.
Demi began dating Wilmer when she was only 18 and he was 29 – an age gap of 11 years.
She later dragged him on her pop rock track 29 – though refused to mention the That ‘70s Show star by name in her song.
