Adding: “Everything we celebrate and honour about movies and television is born out of their creation. And until a solution is reached, I am choosing to wait.”
Sunday’s awards-do will still go on but will now be reportedly hostless.
Following the announcement, loyal fans flooded the actress and socialite with compliments, as many praised her for standing with those who are striking.
Taking to Twitter, one activist tweeted: “We have to stan. This is icon behaviour.”
A second praised the Charlie’s Angels star and tweeted: “Well done, Drew! One step closer to change.”
A third swooped in, adding: “A great move Drew. Change needs to happen, and it needs to happen now.”

A fourth typed: “What a hero. We love to see it!”
It comes after The Writers Guild of America, the union representing most of Hollywood’s writers, went on strike Tuesday (May 2).
Writers who are striking are primarily looking for more compensation, with many pointing to the rise of streaming services as harming their earnings.
The executive producer of the awards, Bruce Gillmer, said Barrymore had his full respect and support.
Drew has already signed to host next year’s show in an olive branch move but will be supporting strikers this year Variety reports.
The red carpet and pre-show press interviews have also been cancelled, with reports claiming that multiple stars have also pulled out from the show.
