Eamonn Holmes has revealed the stress of a legal battle over a shock £250,000 tax bill could have left him blind.
The ex This Morning host said the 2018 demand – over whether he worked freelance at ITV – triggered a shingles attack that left him covered in blisters.
Eamonn, 63, revealed: “I jumped back when I looked at myself in the mirror. I thought, ‘Where the hell did that come from?’

“It was bloody scary to see it. It looked as if someone had taken a baseball bat to my face and smashed me about a bit.”
Eamonn spoke out ahead of Shingles Awareness Week, adding: “Blindness could have been a complication in my case.

“The doctor said it’s really bad for you because it is around your eyes and could be bad for your ophthalmic nerves. Medically, it was pretty serious.”
Luckily Eamonn made a complete recovery with a “course of antibiotics and ointments”, and the telly host’s case against HMRC was rejected in 2020, when a tribunal found he counted as an employee for tax purposes.

Eamonn added: “The hearing was like a lamb to the slaughter – the most humiliating experience.”
The Northern Irish star appealed against the ruling at the Upper Tribunal in London last month, and a decision will follow at a later date.
