EastEnders Reiss star Jonny Freeman’s life – unrecognisable off-screen to rival soap

EastEnders actor Jonny Freeman joined the cast of the BBC soap as Reiss Colewell in late 2022.

He was introduced as the great-nephew of Dot Branning (June Brown), arriving in Walford for her funeral which took place in December.

After hitting it off with Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy), Reiss decided to stick around Albert Square and the couple’s relationship has been blossoming ever since.

But things are set to come crashing down on Monday (May 8), when Reiss’ secret is finally revealed to Sonia.

Ahead of Reiss’ bombshell secret being exposed, Daily Star has looked into the actor’s life away from the soap.

Unrecognisable

Following his soap debut, Jonny proved he is really nothing like his character when photos of him began circulating on social media.

While Reiss’ nervous bumbling persona is matched by his cardigans and oversized specs, Jonny is worlds away from the character he is becoming known for.

In the professional shot, the actor sported full head of hair which is neater and shorter than what he displays on-screen, while he also showed off his trimmed and neatly-groomed beard.

Jonny looks completely different in real life

Stunned by his chiselled good looks, fans flooded social media to share their shock at how different he looks in real life.

“Very handsome, should have kept him like that,” wrote one person as another shared: “Omg he is so good looking, he looks so different in real life.

While a third agreed: “That’s crazy, people definitely aren’t going to recognise him in the street are they!”

Rival soap roles

EastEnders isn’t the first time Jonny has appeared on screen in a soap as the star already portrayed roles in a rival show.

Between 2007 and 2012, Johnny starred as three different characters on BBC medical drama Doctors.

He first landed the part of James Raney in series nine which was then followed by the character of Jamie Dawes.

His final portrayal came in series 13 when he starred as Neil Traynor.

Alongside Doctors, Jonny has also made appearances in Channel 4 crime drama Top Boy, CBBC series MI High and BBC One drama Silent Witness.

Side career

Jonny is an exceedingly versatile actor but is also known for his work as a comedian.

The multi-talented star appeared with the London improvisational comedy group named Shotgun Impro and was also a resident MC at The Funny Side Comedy Clubs.

As well as his notable TV roles, Jonny has also starred in several television adverts for Domino’s Pizza, Ford and Trebor.
