Fast Show’s Paul Whitehouse ‘wants to die from heroin overdose’ as it’s ‘modern’

Fast Show star Paul Whitehouse says he would like to die from a heroin overdose.

The Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing funnyman reckons it would “resonate as a sort of modern death”.

He thinks folks should have the right to choose when and how they snuff it – and backs Swiss assisted-dying clinic Dignitas.

Asked to pick his dream death on actress Kathy Burke’s Where There’s A Will, There’s A Wake podcast he replied: “I’d like an overdose of some heroin I think, something like that.

“Does that sort of resonate as a sort of modern death? Because I’m all for Dignitas. I really am.

“In fact, me and Harry Enfield used to do it. We had a gag as the Old Gits and I’d got him Dignitas vouchers for his birthday.’’

Paul, 64, revealed he once tried ecstasy but said he was “a bit too old for all that” when he took it.

He added: “It was not my thing but I took some one night and I went to this party and I thought, ‘Oh, I’m in heaven, this is incredible.’

“I vowed there and then never to do it again for that very reason.

“Too nice, too good.”

The actor also spoke out about his views on celebrities using different drugs.

He stated that he tried Ecstasy when he was “a bit too old” for it and had a mixed experience with it and ultimately decided to steer clear of the drug.

“It was not my thing, but I took some one night and went to this party and I thought, ‘Oh, I’m in heaven, this is incredible.’ I vowed there and then never to do it again for that very reason,” Paul shared.

“It was too nice, too good, and I thought it can’t be this good, and of course, it wasn’t.”

Paul is currently starring in the musical comedy, Only Fools, which he has also written the music and lyrics for.

The show has become the longest-running performance at The Theatre Royal Haymarket, and Paul joked that the creators are “quite smug” about it.

When asked about future plans for the show, Paul teased: “We hope to do a tour. I don’t know what the dates are yet, but I’ll dip my toe into that as well.”

The show is set to hit the road next year.
