Finding Nemo’s voice actor is all grown up and says Disney movie ‘changed his life’

The kid who voiced plucky clown fish Nemo in the hit Disney Pixar flick Finding Nemo is all grown up – but admits the film “changed his life” forever.

Alexander Gould voiced Nemo in the animated adventure as he ends up abducted and placed in a dentist’s fish tank, with his dad Marlin and pal Dory tracking him across the ocean to find him.

He was just nine years old when Finding Nemo was released.

20 years later, Alexander is all grown up. Aged 29, the star admitted to ABC that the “cultural phenomenon” of the movie changed his life forever.

It took three years for Alexander to record all the audio for the Pixar hit, and started work on the major project aged just six.

Alex would travel back and forth to Pixar in San Francisco and Disney in Los Angeles to record.

The actor explained: “Finally, after many, many months and years of collaborating and working on the film, it kind of all came to fruition and then there was a lot of big media attention, and there was premiere and it was very fun.”

Alexander added: “[The film] just spoke so deeply to everybody who watched it.

The star is now 29 and seems to have ditched acting

“You pick up all the good messages of having faith in yourself, trusting yourself, being able to overcome obstacles in your own life. Things that might seemingly hold you back don’t actually hold you back.”

However, Gould didn’t return to the cast for the 2016 sequel Finding Dory, as he no longer had the voice after going through puberty.

He still managed to do the voice until he was 14, but sadly “wasn’t able to capture the essence of Nemo anymore”.

He said: “That happens when you’re a child actor. So they brought in someone new [Hayden Rolence] who was able to capture the essence that I had in the original film, and he did a really fantastic job doing that.”

Gould did have a small cameo in the sequel, voicing Passenger Carl and providing various additional voices for the animation.

Since shooting to fame in 2003, Alexander has landed various other roles, most notably playing Shane Botwin for 102 episodes of Weeds until 2012.

Finding Dory was his last acting credit.
