GMB’s Ranvir Singh leaves ITV guest cringing after ‘awkward’ greedy dig

Ranvir Singh made some rather uncomfortable remarks to a guest on Good Morning Britain after pushing him to reveal information.

Singh, 46, hosted the ITV show on Wednesday (December 27) as the show returned to our screens in the wake of Christmas. She appeared on the programme together with co-host Richard Madeley.

During one segment of the show, the pair told the story of a pair of conjoined twins who had been joined at the head. But thanks to the miracle of modern medicine and technology, doctors were able to successfully separate the pair, who have gone on to lead normal lives.

The hosts were then able to speak to children’s neurosurgeon Owase Jeelani, who was in the studio. During the interview, Jeelani told the pair how the surgery took place and how important the procedure was to give the children their independence.

But as the interview went on, attention turned away from the patients, but on Jeelani himself. Richard pointed out that Owase was from the disputed region of Kashmir, and had moved to the UK at the age of 15 – with a determination to work in medicine.

Ranvir, herself of Indian Punjabi origin, joked that being a doctor is expected of children from South Asian families. She added that her family saw her as the black sheep of the family for not going into the medical profession.

“Being a doctor – in our family, we’ve got one doctor,” Ranvir explained. “For an Indian family, if you’ve got a doctor – it’s the be all and end all and I’m a complete failure in the eyes of my family for not being a doctor,” she joked.

Singh then asked Owase to explain the deep-rooted medical history in his own family. He responded, explaining: “There are lots of doctors in my family and I’m one of many, that’s for sure.”

Ranvir then pushed him to tell the pair how many siblings he came from. Clearly uncomfortable to respond to the question, he subtly dodged it with the simple phrase: “A lot”.

Madeley, however, was quick on his heels as he begged: “Oh go on, tell us!” Owase was hesitant to answer the question, but revealed he was one of 39 children from his parents.

Upon hearing the news, Richard erupted into fits of laughter as Singh was left stunned at the number. Gathering their thoughts on the staggering number, Richard quipped: “You’re joking!”

But Ranvir continued on with her amazement, as she was unable to fathom the size of the family. “39 kids?!” she exclaimed. “You are greedy!”

Whilst the pair were shocked to learn of Owase’s big family, Jeelani himself seemed to be conscious of himself. After the pair joked over the family’s size, however, he said, reserved: “It’s a large family.”

Owase was quick to try and turn the subject around and get the hosts back to the topic of children needing help. He went on to say: “To go back to being a doctor and being a human, what is it we need to be focusing on?

“For me it is fundamental that we need to think of the global community,” he continued. “All humanity is one and all children are precious.”

Good Morning Britain airs every weekday at 7am on ITV1 and ITVX.
