She revealed that she turned to carbohydrates, sugars, and pizza after giving up drinking 13 years ago but discussed how these foods were making her depression worse.
As she showcases her incredible transformation, let’s take a look at her amazing weight loss journey…
Amazing transformation
Former Hollyoaks actress turned interior designer, Davinia Taylor, amazed her followers with her impressive weight loss journey.
The 45-year-old star shed three stone, going from a size 16 to a size 8, and shared stunning comparison snaps online to show off her transformation.
Flaunting her toned physique in a skimpy black bikini, Davinia recreated a picture from a previous holiday, looking much slimmer and stylish.
In another snap, she relaxed with a refreshing drink while topping up her tan.
Davinia’s post garnered praise from fans and famous friends alike. Actress Patsy Kensit jokingly asked to move in with her for a month and learn everything: saying “Can I move in with you for a month and learn everything, you are incredible.”
Chemical war
Davinia made some thought-provoking statements about the link between diet and mental health during a TV show appearance promoting her new book, It’s Not A Diet.
Davinia shared her experience of using carbohydrates as a form of biohacking to boost her mood when feeling low and explained how some of the ingredients in her favorite foods were triggering her depression.
In an interview with hosts Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond, Davinia said, “You don’t count calories, you’ve gotta count chemicals.
What I’ve done over the years is… because I eat on depression…When I’m upset or stressed I reach for carbohydrates, and that’s a form of biohacking. But basically, you’re trying to hack into your hormones to boost your mood.”
Davinia went on to explain how she turned to carbohydrates, sugars, and pizza after giving up drinking 13 years ago, but didn’t realise that the vegetable and seed oils in the food were making her depression worse.
“And the one I found out – more than sugar would you believe – is that vegetable oil and seed oil actually makes you depressed.
“It’s not meant to be in our diet but it’s everywhere. And when I cut that out, my body started functioning better. And I could metabolize the food I was storing and get rid of it… And then improve my mood and start exercising.”
Mental Wellness
Davinia has become an influential figure on social media, sharing her weight loss journey with fans and regularly posting about taking a holistic approach to losing weight and stopping cravings.
The star is passionate about the link between gut health and mental wellness and has written a bestselling book, It’s Not A Diet, which has topped the Sunday Times Bestseller list.
In an interview with the ECHO, Davinia spoke about her book’s message, saying: “The book is about a shift in your mental state, so gaining more motivation and having a more positive spin on your day.
“When we’re stressed, tired, or in a bad mood, we hover around the kitchen. It’s about getting your brain in gear because if you have control of how your brain is operating, you’ve got control of what you put in your mouth.”
Davinia’s book includes a two-week reset that focuses on resetting your brain rather than weight loss or looking good in a bikini.
She believes that the power to follow any diet or lifestyle comes from not craving packaged food.
She said: “You’ve got the power to follow any diet or lifestyle you want, but you’ve got to not crave packaged food.”
Davinia has a refreshingly different take on dietary guidelines, stating that “Fat is not the enemy, it’s vegetable oil, sunflower oil, and polyunsaturated fats that are.
The most nutrients gained is most certainly not kale, which is highly inflammatory and causes you to bloat.”
She encourages people to be mindful of the subliminal manipulation of marketing, advertising, and labeling when making dietary choices.
Hollyoaks airs weeknights on Channel 4 at 6.30pm followed by first-look episodes on E4 at 7pm
