One Hollywood intimacy coordinator has revealed how actors cope with things like bad smells and periods while filming sex scenes.
Jessica Steinrock has worked with racy scenes for shows including Little Fires Everywhere and Yellowjackets, and regularly uses her TikTok account to show fans what it’s really like behind the scenes.
Hygiene on set is one of the most important factors to consider when filming a spicy scene.

In one video, Jessica revealed: “When talking about spicy scenes, actor hygiene is something that comes up a lot. I’m trying to find a natural deodorant that can work for actors.”
Because some actors are allergic to certain products and scents, battling the BO on set can be a challenge.
And when an actor gets their period just before a saucy bedroom scene is set to film? She’s on hand to help.
In one video, Jessica explained: “Don’t worry, this happens all the time!”
If an actor worries that a tampon string will poke out of their barriers or that their period will overflow during the saucy scenes, Jessica recommends alternate methods.
“[Menstrual cups] are inserted pretty similarly to how a tampon is inserted, but there’s no string. They also can typically hold a little bit more, which means you don’t have to change them as often.
“For a lot of people, they can put it in at the top of the day and they don’t have to change it until the end of the day.”
But she added: “It’s definitely a personal choice. Some folks don’t love that it can be a little messy to change.”
Going to the bathroom isn’t as easy as pulling your pants down when you’re all taped up in barriers, invisible thongs and other modesty garments to film a sex scene, either.
Jessica explained: “Essentially we’re going to use two kinds of tape – this is the first kind, a flesh-toned body tape. It’s really strong. We’re going to use this to line the top portion of the garment and a little bit lower on the sides – this is going to keep it really secure.

“We’re also going to use a different type of tape for the tail.”
The second type is Topstick – which is double-stick tape to paste the tail along the crack of the bum, like a normal thong.
She added: “You’re going to use this to secure the tail to the inside of one of your gluteal cheeks. If you need to use the bathroom, that part can be removed, giving you access – then we’ll give you new tape to put on after.”
