The wife of Huw Edwards has named the BBC presenter at the centre of the sex picture scandal – and confirmed he is in hospital.
Wife Vicky Flind dramatically named her husband as the host in question after days of speculation.
In a lengthy statement on Wednesday (July 12), she confirmed that he has been treated for “severe depression” and is currently in hospital recovering.

Vicky’s full statement read: “In light of the recent reporting regarding the ‘BBC Presenter’ I am making this statement on behalf of my husband Huw Edwards, after what have been five extremely difficult days for our family.
“I am doing this primarily out of concern for his mental well-being and to protect our children.
“Huw is suffering from serious mental health issues. As is well documented, he has been treated for severe depression in recent years,” it continued.
Vicky went on: “The events of the last few days have greatly worsened matters, he has suffered another serious episode and is now receiving in-patient hospital care where he’ll stay for the foreseeable future.
“Once well enough to do so, he intends to respond to the stories that have been published. To be clear Huw was first told that there were allegations being made against him last Thursday.
“In the circumstances and given Huw’s condition I would like to ask that the privacy of my family and everyone else caught up in these upsetting events is respected.
“I know that Huw is deeply sorry that so many colleagues have been impacted by the recent media speculation. We hope this statement will bring that to an end.”
Huw is accused of paying a teenager for sexually explicit photographs over a three-year period, starting when the young person was 17.
He was suspended by the BBC earlier this week.
He was also accused of breaking lockdown laws in order to meet a young stranger from a dating site, and sending “threatening” messages to another young person when they wanted to publicly name him.

However, Met police’s Specialist Crime Command have now determined there is no information to indicate that a criminal offence has been committed.
No further police action is being taken, with the Met advising the BBC it can continue with its internal investigation.
And on BBC News on Wednesday (July 12), it was incorrectly reported that Huw has since resigned from his presenting job – though the host later took her words back and said that he has not yet offered his resignation.
