Coronation Street actor Sam Aston and his wife Briony are expecting their third child.
The 30-year-old actor, who plays Chesney Brown on the ITV soap, shares his three-year-old son Sonny and 18-month old daughter Daisy with Briony. The couple are thrilled that they’re getting a sister.
But it comes in heartbreaking circumstances as it turns out the couple were due to have twins before they lost one of their babies to Vanishing Twin Syndrome. The pair previously suffered two miscarriages within four months.

Vanishing Twin Syndrome occurs when a baby stops growing and the embryo is absorbed by the mother. Sam and Briony have admitted that their pregnancy is “very bittersweet” in the wake of the loss.
Briony told OK!: “We were excited and thankful, because we always wanted a baby that was healthy. Then we started thinking, ‘We could have had two… Will the living twin always wonder, “What if?” and will they feel lonely?’ We found ourselves questioning what could have been, while feeling grateful for what we’ve got.”
Sam, who has played Chesney on the cobbles since 2003, added: “At first, you’re thinking, ‘What would it have been like to have twins? Would we have had one of each, a boy and a girl?” He added: “It’s definitely bittersweet, but we just feel very grateful that the other baby is absolutely fine.”
The non-identical twins were discovered by a midwife during a scan. Briony says she wouldn’t have known they were expecting twins initially had it not been for an earlier scan, and that it explains why she was “so sick and tired” compared to her other pregnancies.
Sam explained his wife “breathed a big sigh of relief” when they knew their baby was healthy, after finding a strong heartbeat and seeing their baby moving during a 12-week scan. And Briony was surprised to find out it was a girl, adding: “I had a strong feeling that it was a boy, right from the very beginning I was so convinced.”

Back in July, Briony revealed she’d suffered two devastating miscarriages in four months. She wrote on social media: “This is a difficult thing to share, but in the interest of breaking the taboo, I’m miscarrying again, the second time in four months…
“It’s heartbreaking and it’s unfair, BUT I’m not seeking sympathy, I feel well supported and want others to feel supported too.”
