Coronation Street’s new Rovers Return owner has been revealed by AI, ahead of its much-anticipated reopening.
As fans will recall, last month the iconic pub was forced to close after landlady Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) found herself strapped for cash. Struggling to keep the business afloat she ended up signing the pub over to Newton & Ridley.
But in a devastating blow, that company was then sold to another company, Waterford Incorporated. And the bosses there were quick to kick Jenny and her staff out.

Since then, the pub has remained closed, with the windows bordered up. However, this week, Corrie producer Iain MacLeod revealed the business will be back open in a matter of months. “It’s not going to stay closed for that long, in fact, it reopens on New Year’s Eve I think,” he said.
And now, ahead of its much-anticipated reopening, the new owner has been ‘revealed’. And fans are no doubt going to be surprised.
Daily Star has quizzed one of the world’s most popular artificially intelligent “creative” tools Bard AI, to see who could be the new owner of the Rovers Return. The program responded: “There are a few contenders to take over the Rovers Return.”
The program then claimed Lydia Flint from Waterfords is the likely landlord. It explained: “Lydia is a tough businesswoman who is determined to make the Rovers a success. She has already made it clear that she is not afraid to make changes, and she has big plans for the pub.”
The system added: “It’s likely that Lydia’s ownership will lead to some drama and conflict on Coronation Street. However, it is also possible that she will be able to turn the Rovers around and make it once again the heart of the community.”
Bard AI also reckons Jenny could end up back as the owner. It explained: “Jenny remains a popular character and is still heavily involved in the Rovers. It’s possible that she could buy back the pub in the future, or perhaps they will offer her the chance to stay on as manager.”
Show favourite Gemma Winter-Brown is also another contender. The system said: “Gemma has been working at the Rovers for many years and has shown a real passion for the pub. She’s also a popular character with viewers, so it would make sense for her to eventually take over the Rovers.”

This week, ITV boss Iain teased the gripping storylines fans can expect from the soap in 2024, and revealed that the Rovers will find its new owner in a matter of months. He told us: “The tease would be that we don’t want it shut for that long because it’s almost like a character in its own right, the Rovers.
“So closing it felt almost like a death. It’s almost as big a deal for me really as any of the other people that might have met their sticky end at the hands of Stephen Reid. The idea that the pub is bordered up was horrifying and even walking up the lot and seeing that, it’s like a dagger to the heart.
The producer went on to warn that the pub’s reopening would be constructed on a “shaky foundation” after one eager pub owners does whatever it takes to secure the prized keys. He went on: “It’s not going to stay closed for that long, in fact it reopens on New Year’s Eve I think. But the interesting thing about it is the circumstances of it becoming open again are all tied up with Stephen’s legacy.”
