Fans of Emmerdale were left rather annoyed during the latest episode after Nicky Milligan made a joke that appeared to fall flat.
Tensions were running high on Friday’s show (December 1), with Suni Sharma’s family left on tenterhooks following his brutal attack the night before. On Thursday’s programme, Suni was rushed to hospital following a homophobic assault and Ethan Anderson was arrested after being framed by one of the evil attackers, Mike, in a cruel twist.
And at the hospital, things were not looking good as Nicky’s dad Caleb and Suni’s dad Amit almost came to blows. But later on in the ITV soap, Suni eventually came around and was shocked to find himself in a hospital bed.

Greeted by Nicky, Suni was clearly confused. Nicky then told Suni, “You’ve been asleep for a week.” But fans were not best pleased with Nicky’s comment and headed over to X formerly known as Twitter to complain.
One viewer wrote: “What a sick joke to say when someone’s woken up in hospital.” Another viewer penned: “Really not time for bad jokes Nicky as he just wakes up!”
A third said: “Weird comment from Nicky to Suni ‘you’ve been asleep for a week’. Stupid comment to confuse a patient.”
However, others seemed to see the funny side of the joke. One viewer wrote: “Been asleep for a week lol!”
During the night out which ended in tragedy on Thursday’s episode, Mike accused Ethan of having a knife, leaving Ethan horrified and baffled over the accusation, as well as Gabby. Mike then told the police to search the area for the knife, even suggesting they ask Gabby, who vehemently denied having anything on her.
Getting increasingly frustrated, an innocent Ethan walked towards a smirking Mike, declaring: “You’re making this up, tell them!” The police then arrested Ethan unexpectedly.
On Friday, after spending the night in a police cell, Ethan was forced to defend himself during police questioning. Making it clear that he is a solicitor, Ethan defended himself with ease while highlighting that he is being racially targetted by the police officers.
Viewers at home were clearly impressed with Ethan and headed over to X to congratulate him on his victory as he walked out of the police station. One fan said: “Huge big up to Ethan; if I wanted someone standing in my corner, it would be him. He certainly knows his worth. He is becoming a much more likeable character.”
